How to Read Data Tables
Explanation
Recommended Care (Process of Care) Higher Score is Better These measures are national benchmarks based on research  supporting this action as the best care for patients with the specific condition (AMI, Pneumonia, heart failure, surgical site infections). You want this type of care; you want the score to be high, showing hospitals are delivering the correct care.

Patient Safety Indicators (PSIs) Lower Rate is Better These measures show how many patient safety errors occurred in each hospital that could have potentially been avoided. You don’t want the rate to be high; you want it to be low, showing fewer errors.

Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) Lower Ratio is Better These measures show the number of infections acquired by patients while in the hospital. You don’t want the ratio to be high; you want it to be low, showing fewer healthcare-associated infections.
